People in West Oxfordshire are invited to an open day at GreenSquare’s extra care scheme, The Paddocks, this weekend to find out more about what independent retirement living has to offer.
The Paddocks, which is located on Shipton Road in the idyllic village of Milton-under-Wychwood, will be opening its doors on 11 March from 11am until 3pm.
Built by GreenSquare is 2015, the modern housing initiative comprises 44 luxurious apartments for shared ownership and rent. It has a number of onsite facilities, which are also open to members of the public, including a hairdressers, restaurant and post office.
Carly Taylor, House Manager at The Paddocks, said: “The Paddocks is not a care home! People live in their own home – everyone has their own front door – but also have the opportunity to be part of a lively community if they’d like to, and can get involved with activities as much or as little as they want.
“At the open event, people will be able to have a look around the scheme, including viewing an apartment, the communal lounge and the hairdressers and stop for a drink and a bite to eat in our restaurant, The Wychwood Pantry. Plus a range of our weekly activities will be on display for people to enjoy.”
Lorna Raye, who lives at The Paddocks with her husband Aubrey, is the head of The Paddocks’ residents’ committee. She said: “It’s a brilliant community here. Neither of us have any care needs at the moment, but it’s nice to know that they are available if we need them in the future.
“We have some great facilities here, which are open to members of the public and it would be great to see more people from the local community making the most of what’s on offer.”
Extra care is a modern initiative designed to provide independent living combined with flexible care options. It is a cost effective way of remaining independent in your own home while having access to personalised on-site care if it is needed. Extra care provides independence without isolation, for older people aged 55 and over.
