To all of you who walk along the brook side in the allotment field you will have noticed some contractor’s vehicles parked up.
Work is due to start tomorrow 4th Feb, weather permitting, on our Phase 2 of the bank development. As a safety measure while they are working there can you walk away from the bank and along the furrow that has been ploughed by the yellow topped posts please.
There are parts of the bank that are being eroded by the brook and water run-off from the fields. The Parish Council is working with Wild Oxfordshire and the plan is firstly to re sculpture the bank by the orchard to make this safer. While the contractors are here they are going to lay a new gravel path from the orchard right up to the bridge to the Bruern Farm. This will tie in with the work the Environment Agency and Wild Oxfordshire have done on the gates along the bridle path from Jubilee Lane to the Bruern Farm making a more pleasant circular path from the village.
The next stage is then to work on the rest of the bank where we plan to plant stabilising willows, hedging and other trees. The final stage will be to plant around 200 trees in the area between the bank and the furrow that had been ploughed across the field to create our new Woodland Walk.
We are hoping that this work will be completed by the end of March. There will be further updates shortly and the opportunity to be involved with the tree planting. (They are only small ‘whips’ so no heavy equipment needed!)
